Atlas Kirk who married Elizabeth Palmer is the son of Stephen Kirk (Feb. 28, 1791 - Jun 16, 1852) and his wife Edith Kimbrell (Aug. 20, 1795 - Aug. 16, 1840). His other siblings were: Lewis, Ezra, Edith, Carroll, Jesse & Kemble.

Stephen Kirk is the son of John Kirk (b. Jun. 8, 1745 Clones, Monagan, Ireland & d. Feb. 1, 1818) & his wife Mary Steele (b. abt. 1755 & d. Jun. 9, 1828). Mary is the daughter of Robert J. Steele.

John immigrated to America in 1762 arriving in Philadelphia with his father Lewis Kirk and his second wife whose name is not known to me. (John's first wife was Sarah and she is the mother of Stephen). By 1770 they were in Orange County, North Carolina and John enlisted in the North Carolina Militia on May 19, 1777 serving in Capt. Griffin John McRee's company of the 1st N. Carolina Battalion. He enlisted for a period of three years. His marriage to Mary Steele was shortly after his discharge.

Hope this is of some help to you,

John Ussery
