I believe that Joel Ledbetter, Jr., b. ca 1777 probably in Caswell Co., NC, ended up in Montgomery & Stanly County NC. The book LEDBETTERS FROM VIRGINIA indicates this Joel migrated to Madison Co. AL where he married a Nancy ___? and that he died there in 1820. Proof of these events were not provided. Joel Jr. is not listed in Alabama marriage, land or census records. Joel Jr. is mentioned in his father's (Joel Ledbetter Sr) Madison Co. AL will. In this will all the sons, except Joel Jr. received land. Joel, Jr received money.

Some report Joel Jr. Ledbetter was a private in Neely's Company, 7th Regt Mississippi Territory Militia involved in repel of a Creek Indian invasion, however, the on line list of WAR OF 1812 SOLDIERS FROM NORTH ALABAMA indicates the name as Joseph Ledbetter who was indicated as not being from North Alabama. See: http://www.rootsweb.com/~almadiso/1812sol.htm

1800, 1810, 1820 1830 & 1840 Census records of Montgomery Co. NC indicate presence of Joel Ledbetter. His will is dated 17 Feb 1843 in Stanly Co. NC which was formed from Montgomery in 1841. This will was proved in the May 1843 session of Stanly Co. court.

Positive proof has not been found or provided which indicats presence of Joel Ledbetter Jr. in Madison Co. AL. There is an abundance of proof for one in Montgomery & Stanly Co. NC.
