John,
Do you know the full name of your John Smith who is the son of Joseph and Sarah Smith or the names of his wife and children? My John Smith lived near the Union/Stanly County Line and had close ties to Western Stanly County as some of his children moved to Stanly County (my g-grandfather George W. Smith).

I have ran across a Joseph and Sarah Smith in Anson County around the time period I am researching.

My John Exum Smith was captured by the "Yankees" 135 years ago "today" during the Battle of Five Forks in Virginia!!
