Well, Bill, looking at my meager Middleton records I may have led you down the wrong road. However, there were two John Middletons listed in NC wills with sons named James. One d 1750 in Edgecombe and the other (mine) d 1741 in Onslow, which probably put son James a generation earlier than the one who might have been the father of your Nancy, b 1775. I believe my Middletons came from VA. I am a descendant of John's daughter, Ann, who married an Abraham Mitchell. My Mitchells ended up in Laurens, SC, by the way.
