I saw that a William Bates is buried in that cemetery. My 3rd gr. grandfather was a William Bates, married to a Frances T. Stokes, and father to Mary Jane Bates Adair. Mary Jane was born in 1838 so William would have been born around the turn of the 1800's. Most of my Adair ancestors seem to have been from Rutherford and Cleveland Counties and for four generations have belonged to Baptist churches which is another reason I thought this William Bates may have been my 3rd gr. grandfather. I wonder if records have been kept on the congregation of this church? Thank you for your response. I hope our family lines do connect. Enjoy your day.
