I am descended from Herbert/Hubard/Hubert/H.C. Collins b 1804 Spartanburg SC. After frustating research over the years we resorted to Y-DNA testing and found we are related to the Martin Collins family of NC. (HC Collins also named a son Martin Collins so that made sense.) That took me to the old Tryon area of NC for research.
We pulled all the Collins wills from Lincoln, Cleveland and Rutherford counties NC in a blazing research side trip. (I live in Pensacola, FL, and was coincidentally in Inman, SC. due to a family illness.)
We have just finished posting the Collins wills and deeds to a Collins family site at MyFamily.com so our two scattered families (HC & Martin) can pour over them and comment. Sadly, Lincoln county did not have the older wills, which they told me are now held only in Raleigh. The Raleigh archives are cloed for improvements until some time in July.
I did not see Ira Collins in the late 1700 and early 1800 wills. I've yet to abstract the wills/deeds so he could be in what I have. When/where did he leave a will? Do you have an e-copy you can send?
Are we related, you think? I'd say we probably share a Collins ancestor, unless there were more that one distinct Collins family in that area. Would you like to look over our family site? You are most welcomed.
