The following bits may or may not provide clues:

Willis Green married Polly Smart in Rutherford County. Lewis Green was the bondsman and Isaac Craton, C. was the witness. The bond was # 000133770 dated March 28, 1828.
(Record: 01 116 Image 007330 North Carolina Marriage Bonds, 1741-1868)
(Polly may be the daughter of James Smart and Mary ?.
Siblings include: John, Susan, Hiram, William, Nancy, Jane and Mary (Polly).
In Dec., 1817, An Issac Craton bought Mountain Creek land in Rutherford County from "William Grant"
In 1840, a Willis Green is listed on the Rutherford County Census.

John Keller married Elizabeth Green, d/o Elijah Green in Burke County.
They names a son: Willis Green Keller.

Also, a Willis W. Green died July 28, 1863 @ Mt. Jackson.
He was from the Cleveland County, NC Company D, 55th Regiment that was known as "The Cleveland Farmers." An Elijah Green was also in this regiment.
