Southerland/Sutherlands in the 1700's

I am looking for any references as to the folks in Rowan county in and about 1740-60. The names are Sutherland or Southerland, both names pronounced the same.
In particular, I'm looking for William, John, Daniel and Mordecai.
If anyone in Rowan county has ever heard of anthing about these men, please share with me. They are my ancestors. Many thanks.
