I have a copy of some info that Mary Jane had applied to the Cherokee Nation for benefits. She lists on her information, that her fathers parents as Harmon Lassiter, and his wife was Nancy Rainwater. She lists her mothers parents as Jordan Mathews and Nancy Oliff.

She lists the children of each of these as follows: The Lassiters-Wm. Lassiter, Jackson Lassiter, Jesse Lassiter, Allen Lassiter, Nancy Lassiter, and Elizabeth Lassiter. The Mathews-Berry Mathews, John Mathews, Jordan Mathews, and Mary Stanley Mathews.

Since Mary Jane is the daughter of Jesse and Mary, I would guess that her information would be pretty true. This is really the only information I have personally seen in writing of who the parents of Jesse and Mary are. She also lists the death dates of her parents. Her father in 1862 and her mother in 1872. It appears that the biggest majority of her information is correct as to where the family lived. She does list an Augustus Lassiter as a brother, and I don't find him on the family sheet, so I am not sure if that could be a middle name for one of the other boys, or if there was in fact a son who possibly passed away? She does not list all of the children which I found odd. She lists as her siblings, John Allen Lassiter, Jesse Lassiter, William Lassiter, Augustus Lassiter, Pryor Lassiter, and Nancy Lassiter Fowler. She is missing Francis Asbury Lassiter, Marion Lassiter, Thomas J. Lassiter, Robert F. Lassiter, Julia Ann Lassiter and David Andrew Ardvine Lassiter. I don't know why she ommitted the others unless she was doing the writing for the others and the ones that are missing are doing their own? Still you would think she would have put all of their names down. My guess is that she took her parents parents information out of a family Bible? Can anyone shed some light on this?
