Hello John,

Many thanks for your message. I will look into all the information you've kindly sent, but my ancestor Samuel Sumner was born in NC in 1786 according to 1850 and 1860 census records in Yellow Creek, Linn County, Missouri where he eventually settled. He died there in Dec. of 1863. The military record I was researching indicated a Samuel Sumner who was born about 1786 in "Hartford, NC" ws enlisted May 3, 1814 in Rockingham, but didn't identify Rockingham, Richmond Co., NC or Rockingham County, NC. That's why I've been casting about trying to locate "Hartford, NC" for about 1786 and which Rockingham it might be in 1814.
