Donald, I can't help with names of the wife and children of Elisha D. Hunter, but may be able to provide a few clues to follow in your search. I can tell you that Elisha D. Hunter, John A. Hunter and Eliza C. Hunter were the children of Harry A. Hunter and Melinda McKay Hunter. Melinda was the daughter of Daniel McKay who died in Richmond County, NC in October 1855. At the time of his death Daniel McKay was in possession of 333 acres of land on Mountain Creek. Harry and Melinda Hunter apparentley agreed to exchange her inherited share of land with Melinda's brother, John C. McKay, for a tract of land in Stanly County, NC. Melinda died before the transaction was made, so in April 1858 the Hunter children petitioned the court through their guardian (father) Harry A. Hunter to settle this land dispute.

Melinda had another brother whose name was Alexander McKay.
