I am searching for the family of Nancy Russell, the wife of William Preston Smith of York Co., SC. They were living in Winston County, MS when she died in 1847.

Letters were received from John Calhoun Russell, a Baptist minister in Dallas, TX. In the 1880 Census of York, SC , there is a John Russell, age 37 with wife Lethia(?), and children Mary, age 11, Paul, age 8, Lemuel age 6, Callie, age 4 and a daughter, Addie, age 1. All were born in SC as were their parents.

A letter from John Calhoun Russell from Dallas, TX, in later years, John Russell, a Baptist minister, mentioned his daughter Mary VAUGHN who taught at a college there, his daughter Addie who had married a Baptist preacher and another daughter Callie.

In checking the 1900 Census of Dallas, I found a John Russell, born July 1842, age 57. He had been married 34 years and was a minister. His wife Letha was born Jan., 1840, was age 60 and married 34 years. She had 8 children, but only 3 lived. So I assume that both Paul and Lemuel had died.

Another letter was from James Starlem Russell of Mills Spring of then Polk Co., NC.

I believe that both John Calhoun and James Starlem Russell are likely to be the brothers/first cousins of Nancy Russell, wife of William Preston Smith.

Any help will be appreciated. Arlina
