For those of you that are still researching the John & Benjamin Halbert/Holbert Family and connecting Steel and Stover ....Being in the Hendersonville area for a couple of months, I thought I would go down to Rutherford County Courthouse and see if there were any deeds that I had missed before pertaining to our ancestor, John Halbert/Holbert and Benjamin Halbert/ Holbert. I found five or six that you may have seen before in their abbreviated form but I wanted to try to copy them in their entirety as they had been written in over 200 years ago. Not only did I find these copies of deeds for John and Benjamin but I also found several for Jacob, John and Robert Stover and a couple for Abraham Steel. So I took my digital camera and made copies of all of them and brought them home where I can enlarge and hopefully post them exactly as some clerk wrote them 200 years ago. I have no legal experence in deeds but there are many clues in these documents. These documents were, in some cases, in poor condition and of course the wording was different from ours today, and I may be trying to take on to much but even if I miss spell some of the wording, I thought that I could get most of the “meat” out of them. I will try to copy them exactly as they were written, carefully going over them so as to not insert anything or take anything away. If there is enough interest I will post them one at a time and will insert a question mark on anything that I am not sure of. There may be entries that I cannot reproduce with my computer so in that case I will leave blank ----. Hope you enjoy them as I did.
