Wanted to thank you for information you posted and believe you are entirely correct in saying the two Smiths are different people. It did however point us in another direction Doctor Smith is listed in the 1860 census and there are two other Smith families living nearby that may just be relatives. Would you happen to have in your files any information on a George R. Smith and a John Smith?
If these two families are not connected to ours hopefully they will be to yours. Thanks for any help Mary L. Raymond
