Josseph, thanks for the reply. You are right Doctor Miller Smith's first wife was Margaret E. Goode and one of their children was Thomas Columbus Smith my great uncle and half brother to my grandfather James Boyd Smith. I did not know that Doctor Miller Smith was in the 50th Regiment. He and my great grandmother M Elizabeth Dalton were married in 1873 and they had at least two or more children of their own besides the nine of his and Margaret's. Let me give you my e-mail address so that we can stay in touch MaryLouRaymond@msn.com because I think you might be right with the Miller connection. So far we have not been able to confirm Doc Smiths'parents or his wife Elizabeth. At the beginning of my search I believe someone wrote and mentioned your Thomas Calaway, I will look back at my earlier information and see if have anything that would help. Was your Thomas also from the Rutherford area? Also drop me a line and let me know what other lines are connected to your Thomas C. Smith. You have given me another path to explore and I hope I can return the favor. Thanks again. Mary L. Raymond
