Hello,
I noticed in the 1860 Rutherford county census there is a William Smith with wife Ellender( I believe she was a Hoyle)who have a son named Decatur. Could this be Dr. Decatur Miller Smith's nephew? There is also a D.M. Smith age 20 listed with Margaret(Goode). Is this Decatur's first wife? I know this couple had a son, Thomas Colombus Smith, who was a prominent citizen in Rutherford county. Did you know that NC Troops lists a Doc Miller Smith serving in CO. I 50th regiment? I'm trying to find info on a William and Elizabeth Smith of Rutherford or Polk county, parents to Thomas Calaway Smith (1837-1895) grandparents to William Miller Smith(1869-1940). I wonder if both our families are related with a Miller connection.
