Thanks very much. Actually, the lady I'm trying to track was mostly called either Hattie or Hettie. I've noticed that Southerners often used 'a' and 'ie' endings pretty much interchangeably. Also, my Hattie seems to have had a Smith connection that I've not been able to pin down. So the Smith family you found interests me. This could well be a match. I appreciate it!
