EVERETT ROGERS b. 1770 Pitt Co. NC/ WILLIAM L. ROGERS b. 1770 Montgomery Co. NC

DNA results are in on both EVERETT ROGERS b. 1770 Pitt Co. NC and my GGG GRANDFATHER who was WILLIAM L. ROGERS b. 1770 Montgomery Co. NC and they are very close matches.

We know our William L. Rogers born in Montgomery Co.NC region in about 1770 as his father JAMES ROGERS Jr. had entered his many acres of land in Montgomery Co. NC in the summer of 1779.

We also know that this same JAMES ROGERS Jr. was born about 1746 NC and that he is said to be son of JAMES ROGERS, Sr. born between 1700-1720 in unknown place. The first record we have of our Rogers is when James Rogers, Sr. and his son James Rogers, Jr. signed the 1774 Anson Co. NC petition to build a road across their property which was then in Anson Co. NC in 1774. JOHN ROGERS also signed this same petition with our Rogers. So we assume a JOHN ROGERS ( no info on him ) is related to our Rogers as well.

Montgomery Co. NC was formed from Anson in 1779 and so our Rogers then entered their Anson lands in Montgomery Co. NC in the summer of 1779, which was land along Long Creek, Riles or Royals Creek, and Curl Tail or Cuttail Creek. ( You will see mistyped transcriptions of these creeks reads all sorts of spelling variations ). Most of this land the ROGERS owned is now in Stanly Co. NC bordering Rowan Co. NC. The Long Creek separates the county of Stanly from Cabarrus Co. NC. That is some distance from PITT CO. NC.

We know that our other DNA MATCHES of ROGERS also all seem to match a JOHN ROGERS b. abt. 1617 England or Wales who arrived on ship "George" in 1635 with his brother THOMAS ROGERS. No info on Thomas but John Rogers was in House of Burgess at Jamestown VA and then lived in Surry Co. VA and participated in the BACONS REBELLION with ROWLANDS who later are in our line of ROGERS in TN. The ROWLANDS also lived in Surry Co. VA and split in that county with ours going down to Montgomery Co.NC eventually and settling near our ROGERS there. Later they all moved from Montgomery Co. NC to CARROLL CO. TN. Rowlands intermarried with a lot of families, and ours were one of the families we see these marriages.

We know that many ROGERS groups were in Anson, Montgomery and Stanly Co.NC later on. Our Group does not match any other of the ANSON CO.NC ROGERS, that have been DNA Tested.

We do match DNA with EVERETT ROGERS b. 1770 PITT CO. NC, and the JOHN ROGERS b. 1617 England who arrived in Jamestown VA in 1635; and we also match others who are later found in SC and NC like:

EDMUND ROGERS b. abt. 1809 SC ;

WILLIAM JACKSON ROGERS b. bet. 1819 - 1822 possibly born in TN;

JOSEPH ROGERS b. 1788 Wash. Dist. SC;

TRISTRAM ROGERS b. abt. 1730 VA or NC;

Also another recent DNA Match of our ROGERS groups is JACOB C. RODGERS of Weakley Co. TN.

We assume we all have a common ancestor back there and wonder if he might not have been in PITT CO. NC at one time. The first known record of my ROGERS is that 1774 Anson Co. NC petition they signed and they are on many other ANSON and Montgomery Co.NC Petitions after that. James Rogers, Sr. probably died or moved on after about 1779 but his son JAMES ROGERS, Jr. had land deeds and petitions he signed up to about 1800 in Montgomery Co. NC. After that we presume he is the elder male living in his son WILLIAM L. ROGERS household in the 1810 Montgomery Co.NC Census.

William Rogers and his son Basil Rogers signed the 1816 Montgomery Co. NC Court House petition and James Rogers, Jr. did not, so we assume he had either died by 1816 or was incapable of signing this petition. By 1823 William Rogers and his son BASIL ROGERS sold their land in Montgomery Co.NC to MATHIAS BARRINGER of CABARRUS CO. NC. The Rogers are then found living in Carroll Co. TN by 1823 and were spelling the name as RODGERS, ROGERS, and ROGGERS. Eventually the spelling again became ROGERS spelling it had been in ANSON and MONTGOMERY Co's NC in the 1774 - 1823 era.

Any information on the name of JAMES ROGERS of PITT CO. NC might be helpful for if Everett Rogers is our DNA MATCH and JAMES ROGERS name is found in Pitt Co. NC at that time, possibly he was named for one of our JAMES ROGERS in our family in Montgomery Co. NC.
