Cemeteries
Posted by: Kenny Braxton Date: November 21, 2001 at 06:53:10

I recently acquired what has been referred to as either the Ben Byrd or Cox Family Cemetery on Reedy Branch Road where my gg and ggg grand parents and other family members (Braxton and Cox) are buried. I did so to help insure its preservation and to simplify the process of maintaining it and making improvements to the site. I was recently sicken to find out that some jerk several years ago destroyed the Sutton Family Cemetery on Fairlane Road in Greenville where my great grandfather John Thomas Pilgreen was buried. I wanted to do everything possible to prevent this from happening to the Ben Byrd/Cox Family Cemetery.

If I am not mistaken, there is a process for registering old cemeteries. Where can I obtain information about the process and the advantages of registering a cemetery?

Thanks,

Kenny Braxton
