I found mention of a John H. Clay of Person Co. in a page I copied from the Caswell Co. Deed Book 1817-1840. I believe he received some money for land. Deal was witnessed by James Clay, 20 Oct. 1838. Email me if you want the exact wording with location of land.
I have a few pages from a Person Co. Deed Book 1792-1825; Person Co. Court Record Book with letters of attorney and abstracts, 1792-1820.
