In the name of God amen theis twenty third day of June in the yearr of our
God one thousand eight hundred and three, I James Jones of Halifax County
and Parish of Antrim being weak and loe (?) in body tho of sound and perfect
memory and understanding do make ordain and constitute this my last will and
Testament as follows to wit, Item my will and desire that my loving wife
Winifred Jones shall enjoy during her natural life the land and plantation
whereon I now live also one negro boy Lewis during the same time. Item I
give and bequeath to my loving wife Winifred Jones four negroes to ....(?)
Tom of amy Ben Ester and Lucy to her and her heirs for ever also all my
household and kitchen furniture and the half of my stock of all kinds also
half of my plantation utensils also the half of my last crop and the present
crop when finished. also on hundred twenty five pounds in cash to her and
her heirs forever -- Item I give and bequeath to my grand children decended
(sp) from my son Ambrose Jones one thousand dollars to be equally divided
between them to them and their heirs for ever -- I give and bequeath to my
son Robert Jones one half of my Estate real and personal not before given
including the property of mine he now has in his possession to him and his
heirs forever provided he will deliver up the said property for a division
but should he refuse to deliver up the property in his possession for a
revision it is my will and desire that he shall not have any other part of
my Estate either real or personal. Item I give and bequeath to my son
Ambrose Jones the remaining part of my Estate both real and personal to him
and his heirs forever. And lastly I do appoint and nominate my loving wife
Winifred Jones Executrix and my brother Gabriel Jones Exer of this my last
will and testament and acknowledged in presence of the Subscribing witnesses
the day and year above written.

At a court held for Halifax County the 25th day of July 1803
The within written last will and testamentof James Jones deceased was
exhibited in Court and proved by the oath of two of the witnesses thereto
described and ordered to be recorded -- and on the motion of Gabriel Jones
the Executor therein named who made oath according to law: Certificate is
granted him for obtaining probate thereof in due form -- He giving security
-- whereupon he together with Samuel Pointer, Joseph Legin, and Ambrose
Jones his Securities-- entered into -- and acknowledged their bond in the
penalty of fifty thousand dollars -- conditioned as the law directed.
