My mother and father are from Person County, NC. My Great-Grandfather, Fred Howard Cunningham was among some of the slaves that was born and raised there on the John W. Cunningham Plantation of Waverly. He was the son of Anderson and Martha Cunningham. My G-Aunt's father was raised there. She has told stories of how life was there, she was named after the mitress of the Plantation her name was Minnie Cunningham. My G-Aunt told how her father's brothers and sisters were bought from the Howard Plantation to work the Cunningham plantation. After the war many choose to keep the Cunningham name and onechoose to change their name back to Howard. So hey we could be some kin. I am in the process of trying to trace my roots. My Grandfather's name was John C. Cunningham, Born 1892 d. 1943. My G-Aunt did a newspaper interview maybe you can get a copy of that edition. The article is in The Courier Times (Leisure Life section B, Thursay, November 14, 1974. It also tell of the Cunningham Plantation. Lets keep in touch.
