Donegans from Ireland to north Carolina west to Tennessee 17-1800s

We are researching Donegans who emigrated from Ireland into North Carolina and west to Dickson, Tennessee. The earliest we know of is late 1700s when the counties were changing and Tennessee was coming into Statehood and old Tennessee county was becoming Montgomey county. Records seem hard to come by. We have only two dates (Thomas, born 1817) and his daughter Martha Ann Donegan born 1850 in Dickson Tennessee. I see other names such as James Donegan with a mother named Margaret Ryan and don't know where or when these people came into the picture. HELP!! Jeanette of Calif.
