I am looking for info on the Woods family. Today I found out about the Cain connection.
I am looking for info on Mary Wood. She married William Chatham in 1854 Davidson Co TN. They lived in Nashville.
I do find the marriage. I cannot find her death. I cannot find her in the 1860 census. William is living with his father, and not children are listed with him.
His father is Isaac Chatham b. @ 1808 NC.
In 1860 Isaac is a shoe maker. William is a boilermaker.

In 1870 William:
Sarah age 31 keeping house
Mollie age 11 b. TN
Minnie age 7 b. TN
Ju E age 5 b. IND (this is who I decend from)

as you can see Mollie was born in 1859, where was she in the 1860 census. We think she was with her mother, or her mothers family.

1880 William,
Sarah wife
Mollie 22 dau TN
Joanna 14 IND
Edward 6 TN
Addie 1 TN
Thomas Roberts 27 son in law b. SC
Mary 24 daughter b. IND

Now this census, has another problem, and we have checked it carefully. Mary must be the daughter of William, and born in 1856, most likely the daughter of Mary Wood who I find married William Chatham in 1854 Nashville.

So now, Mary and Mollie are missing from the 1860 census.

Minnie died in 1873 of Typoid
Addie d. in 1881 (other children died in youth)

I have a note that Hugh Woods b. 1790's is next door. But I didnt put which census.

The son of Edward Chatham is still alive. He lives in Nashville and is 89 years old. He said, he was told, Mary was the mother of the older chidlren.

We think it could be either Mary or Sarah.

We also have talk of Cherokee blood from possibly this family.

In searching the Woods of Davidson county, I have found these Woods, and think they are your Woods and maybe my Mary or Sarah Woods who married William Chatham belong to.

1850 Davidson
pg. 176 HH89
Hugh Woods age 73 farmer b. NC
John 47 NC
Caroline 32 NC
Mary 6 TN
John 4 TN
Hariette 2 TN

pg. 177 HH 102
Eli H. Woods 50 farmer NC
Jane 42 NC
Wm 23 NC
Charley 21 TN
Elizabeth 16 TN
Sarah 14 TN
Mary 12 TN
George 7 TN
Ely 5 TN

177 #103
Elizabeth Woods 36, TN
John H. 18 TN shoemaker (the same as Isaac)
Wm. G. 17 TN
Mary 16 TN
Martha A 13 TN
Carolina P 11 TN
Rachel D 7 TN

I think Mary age 16 married William Chatham. At some point Mary died, and her cousin, Sarah, age 14 then took care of the children in 1870 and married William.

In 1860 Sarah is 24 and still living at home with her father.

I know this is a lot, but I am hoping you can help clear up this brick wall.

I am hoping dates and names will help.

I cant wait to hear from you.
