WILLIAM GRAY, mid-1700's
Posted by: Katherine Date: August 20, 2000 at 21:00:28
  of 1322

Looking for information to substantiate an old family record. The record says that the first members of the Gray family in America were William Gray, who married Jane Townley, and William's sister, name unknown, who married a Lewis and eventually lost touch with William's family. This would have been in the mid-1700's.

William Gray and his sister may have settled initially in New Hanover County, North Carolina. I think that William Gray and his wife Jane moved to Orange County, North Carolina and raised several children. According to the family history, the Gray children were Davis, Frederick, Jane (married a Massey), John (died 1812), Mary Ann (married a Turlington), Thomas (married Mary/Polly Massey), Rachel (married John B. Leigh) and Richard (my ancestor, who married Margaret or Peggy Beavers).

I have not been able to find any information about William Gray and his wife Jane, his sister, or about any of William's children other than Richard and Rachel. Any information about about any of them would be appreciated.
