My James Bryan/Bryant married Elizabeth Neely/Neeley in Orange County, NC, in 1798. After living in South Carolina for a few years, they moved to Lincoln Co., Tenn. some time in the early 1800's. Their name in found as both Bryan and Bryant until the mid to late 1800's when it became Bryan. We have no info on James' parents. After Tennessee, the family moved to Rankin Co. Mississippi. Two sons (John Neely and James Bracken) went to the Republic of Texas about 1838. One son Thomas died about 1833. William Carroll lived in Memphis.

Could William be James' father, brother, uncle, cousin? One thing we do know is that we do not descend from Morgan Bryan.
