In the 1850 Census, Elizabeth is the head of the household with two minor children. It would appear that she is a widow. However, after examining the Court Minutes (1846-51) there are no administration records for a Wilson. Also, Elizabeth does not appear to claim her dower right nor is there any guardianship for her minor children. This leads me to believe that Elizabeth may never have been married to this point.
Further examination of the estate records of Onslow County should no Wilson for the same time period. And the deed indices (grantor and grantee) show no transactions for Elizabeth Wilson.
Since Robert Alexander Wilson was born circa 1856-57, he possibly was illegitimate since Elizabeth did not marry Edward Edens until March, 1858.
I will continue to work on this mystery.
