Hello Richard,
So good to get a response!
Sorry it took me a while to get back to you, finally found my password info to get back on here.

A friend tells me that Delamer was probably captured by the Union Troops while he was serving the CSA and given a choice of serving on the Union side or being a POW.

He married 3 times and had children by the first 2 wives. I have 4 by Amanda Riggs and 4 by Susan Gilliken. My husband descends from his son, John J.
I was thinking Delamer maybe the son of John Wells who lived next door to Amanda's brother, Wm Riggs in 1860. Well at least beside of Wm on one page, his family is listed twice. But have questions why he wouldnt have been listed with Delamer and Sallie on 1850.
Here is 1880 from Soundex:
1880 US NC - SOUNDEX W420 CENSUS - CARTERET COUNTY, STRAITS TOWNSHIP
VOL. 4_ E.D.28_ SHEET 3_ LINE (14?)
NAME RELATION AGE Birthplace
WELLS, Deleware head 54 NC [[should be Delemar]]
Susan J. w 49 NC
George Ann d 10 NC
Briant W. s 9 NC
Cornell s 7 NC
Dele(w)are s 5 NC
Think I have some soundex for his 3rd wife, Kizziah too.
Please email me directly and I will send you more info.
Also, I am curious which child of Delamer you descend.
Look forward to hearing back from you.
Thanks,
Pat Wells
