E.A.Best, Minister, Emma's Chapel

I am looking for antecedents on E. A. Best(his name is usually shown this way, but first name is Edward) who minister at Emma's Chapel in Richlands, Onslow County, in 1865.
He married Alice Ward Sylvester as his second wife in Onslow county in 1865. He was a chaplain in TWBS, and spent time at Mosely Hall, in Lenoir County from where he was a delegate to the Baptist Convention in 1864. By his first wife, Mary last name unknown, he had 7 children:Sarah, Julia, Wm., R.A.(killed in the War), Virginia, Judson, and Julia again. He appears in the 1860 census in Lenoir, supposedly born in Virginia but I can find him in no other census either as Edward or E.A.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Bob Baxter
