Additional info on LOUISA JANE SPEARS, wife of DAVID MILLS.
The SPEARS family who were FCP in Nash County were descended from SILVIA SPEARS, who was a former slave of ABRAHAM BASS of Nash Co. SILVIA was freed by an act of the NC General Assembly in 1811, and then in 1812, SILVIA's daughter, VIOLET, was freed by the same General Assembly; both females were given the surnames of SPEARS in the G.A.
VIOLET SPEARS was married to WILLIAM WILKINS and they also lived in Nash County, and she died abt 1886 when she left a will giving most of her estate to her granddaughter, JULIA ANN MILLS, wife of HENRY CORDELL. LOUISA JANE SPEARS was the daughter of VIOLET SPEARS, apparently born out of wedlock, prior to VIOLET's marriage to WILKINS.
