A bit more information, courtesy of the new book, "Wilson County's Founding Families," Sue Evans Powell and Henry Powell, eds.

They cite a court record for Elizabeth Lewis, widow of Gilbert Lewis, who died intestate 18 November 1846, who petitioned for her dower in Nash County at the February Term, 1847. The book cites the children listed in the document as: Gilford, Caswell,Elizabeth Jane, Gilbert and Gilliam, all left without guardian. They further cite the 1850 Nash County census where Elizabeth (age 44) was living with Guilford (17 year-old farmer), Caswell (14), Elizabeth (13), Guilbert (10), Guilliam (7) and Polly Mason (age 56). It also shows the marriage and family of Caswell Lewis in the 1860, 1870 and 1880 Wilson County censuses.
