In the name of God Amen. I James Atkinson of the County of Nash in the State of North Carolina being in perfect mind and memory do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following.
Item: I will that all my just debts be paid.
Item: I give and bequeath to my wife MARGARET one feather bed and furniture also one looking glass, also I give her one box iron and heater and one chest her choice, also I give her one third part of the remainder of my personal or moveable estate, also I lend her the land and plantation whereon I live during her life.
Item: I give and bequeath to my sons BURWELL and EPHRAIM their heirs and assigns the land and plantation whereon I live to return to them after my wifes death the land to be equally divided between them.
Item: I give all the remainder of my estate after the payment of my debts to be equally divided among my children.
Item: I constitute and appoint my beloved wife MARGARET and my son BURREL executors of this my last will and testament and I publish this and no other to be my last will and testament and signed, sealed, published and pronounced this 21st day of December 1779.
April Term, 1783
The within will was exhibited in open court for probate and proven by the oath of NATHAN BODDIE a subscribing witness thereto and on motion ordered to be recorded. And is registered in obedience to the above order.
