I'm attempting to organize a "Descendants of John Mills and Sallie Richardson" Family Reunion in or around Nashville NC in the summer of 2012. As of the date of this post, "Summer 2012" is only 18 months away. It would be a wonderful experience to meet the living descendants of John and Sallie and for us to honour them along with all of their descendants at a reunion.
About me: I am the great-great grandson of James Norwood Mills (alias J.N. Mills). James was one of John and Sallie's children. James married Peny/Penny Richardson on June 24, 1890 at Fishing Creek, Warren County, NC. James and Peny had one child together, Willie Mills who was my great-grandfather.
According to the information that I have gathered, John Mills was born in 1825 and Sallie Ann Richardson was born in 1836. They were married on August 6, 1852 in Halifax, NC. They raised their family in and around Nashville.
An 1860 census record that I found at the National Archives in Washington DC contained records for children Bet and William. I found a record of death for William on FamilySearch.org which indicates that William was born on June 6, 1854 in Warren County, NC., married to Ava Pettiford , died September 29, 1942 in Nash County, NC and buried in Spring Hope, NC.
The 1880 Census records for John Mills, Sallie Ann and family (also available at FamilySearch.org) lists 6 of their children: Sarah F., Alfred, Rosa A., J.N., E.J., and Johnie. Both Bet and William were adults in 1880 so that is likely why they aren't listed as part of John and Sallie's household in 1880. From the information that I have gathered to date, John and Sallie Ann had the following children: Bet, William, Sarah F., Alfred, Rosa A., James N., E.J., and Johnie. There may have been more after Johnie but I have not found any information on later children.
If you are a descendant of John Mills and Sally Ann Richardson or have information concerning them or their descendents, please reply to this post. I would be delighted to correspond with you.
