Horace, page 111 states "Lindsay and Matthews, a general store, supplied everything from fresh butter to bulk sides and the best five-cent cigars in town."

Matthews names listed in the index are:
Mathews and Gupton and Company p 109
Mathews, J.D., Dr. p 203
Mathews, Thomas A, Dr. p 205
Mathewson, Nathan p 101
Matthews, William p 233

The book has recently been reprinted and now includes an index. You can contact Braswell Library in Rocky Mount and inquire in the genealogy room how much they are and instructions on obtaining one if you are interested. There is a wealth of information contained in the book.
