Linda, could your William Jackson been born as early as 1785? I have been trying for years to place a William Jackson in Edgecombe County. He lived just across the line from the present day Nash Co. and probably died between 1850 and 1860. All of the people living with him in the 1850 census were still in Edgecombe in the 1860 census. Philander Williams sounds very familiar.
