In the Name of God, Amen. I RICHARD THOMAS of Nash County and State of North Carolina, being sick and weak of body but of perfect ? and sound memory calling to mind the mortality of my body knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following (to wit) my soul I give unto the hand of God that gave it me, and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in a christian and decent manner at the discretion of my executors and touching what worldy goods God hath blessed me with I give and bequeath in manner and form following.
Item: I will that my just debts and funeral charges be paid.
Item: I give and bequeath to my beloved son JETHRO THOMAS, four hundred acres of land lying on the north side of maple creek in Nash County, also one young negroe slave named YORK, likewise four cowes and calfs also all my cider barrels and hogshead, to him and his heirs forever.
Item: My will and desire is that all the remainder of my estate real and personal may be equally divided betwixt my daughters MORNING and MARY THOMAS, by my executors to them and their heirs forever.
Item: I constitute and appoint my beloved son JETHRO THOMAS and my trusty and beloved friends DUNCAN LAMON, MICAJAH THOMAS and WILSON VICK, Executors of this my last will and testament, revoking and disanuling all former wills and testaments by me hereto before made. Ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament, signed and sealed, published and pronounced this the 15th day of October, Anno. Domini 1784.
