My wife is the actual descendent who replied to sent the messages about Fishing Creek. We are Texans so are only sure of one thing, her ancestor "thought" his creek joined the Moruttuck which in the NC Gazetteer is stated as being the Roanoke. She was pleased to hear that Fishing Creek actually joins the Tar, she felt that was the case for quite awhile. Visiting the area does not give a true sense of where one is wandering. Her ancestor, Ralph, was a constable and also responsible for the road from Culpepper Bridge to Beaverdam Swamp. He and son Mark also were signers of the petition to divide Edgecombe into two counties because the journey to the county seat for court was so far. Ralph had a 2nd Gr. grandaughter, Isabelle Mason, who married a Thomas Taylor in January, 1868. Any relation or tie in your notes? Thanks for the good info you sent her. She has worked very hard to pull facts together the last couple of years.
