Hello Anita,
I suspect your Hines Berry Brown is going to be like our Green Berry Yarbrough. He is in the records as Greenberry, Green Berry, Greenbury, Greenberrie and Green B.

Usually a young man stayed in his parent's household until he married. However, if H.B. married in 1844 and he was b.1817 (census records seem to indicate a little earlier than that) then he would have been 27 to 30 when he married -- and quite possibly had been out on his own for several years.

I tried the reverse -- looking at who was in Nash Co. in 1810 and then 1820 to see who had a son the right age to be H. B. There is a possibility there. However, I do not have enough records to prove it.

I have typed off some of the early Edgecombe/Nash Co. records for you and will send them by email as an attachment. Maybe you will find something in the notes that will give you a clue.

Best wishes,
Karen Mazock
