Who is Nash County named for?

I have searched this site but cannot find the name of person the county was named for. Anyone know? Also, my father told me years ago that Rocky Mount was "the social capital of the South". Is there a book about Rocky Mount during the Big Band era? I plan to post on Edgecombe County too. Thank you so much.
