In the Name of God, Amen. The first day of November 1776.
I, WILLIAM LASSITER, of the county of Edgecombe for the province of North Carolina, being weak but of perfect mind and memory thanks be to God therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament as followeth that is to say principally and first of all I give and recomend my soul unto the hand of God that gave it and my body I recomend to the earth to be buried in a decent christian manner, at the discretion of my executors and as touching such worldly my estate where with it hath pleased God to bless me within this life, I give in the following manner and form.
Item: I give and bequeath, to my wife my horse and saddle and all my house hold stuff, corn and hogs. I lend my negroe girl MEREAVE, during her life and after her decease to WILLIS POWELL and his heirs forever.
Item: I give to BURRELL WHITEHEAD, my negroe boy LUKE, to him and his heirs forever and the rest of my estate besides what pays of debts, I leave to my sister MARTHA SNIPES, as she is thought to want it for support. I also make and ordain WILLIS POWELL, sole executor of this my last will and testament revoking all other wills and testaments before made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written.
Signed, sealed, published and prounounced to be the said WILLIAM LASSITER last will and testament in presence of us.
Witness: NICHOLAS SKINNER, SARAH BARNES

The above will was in open court duly proved by the oath of NICHOLAS SKINNER, a witness thereto who swear that hew saw SARAH BARNES subscribed the same as an evidence of the execution therein, named, qualified according to law which is ordered to be recorded. Attest WM HALL, C.C.
