Moore and Chatham counties were where people vacationed during the summer months. That would explain what your ancestor was doing there.

The time frame of her death is not well known for tombstones, at least in the Moore County area. Not impossible but more improbable.

Try to contact churches in and near Carthage that were built in that time frame
