Simson/Pasquotank; Tayloe/Bertie: Morgans?
I have been on GenForum for years but this is my first time to search for the Morgan family of NC. We recently learned there is a possibility that our Robert Simson who died in Pasquotank Co, NC Will 1834 was married to a Mary Morgan. The marriage records of Pasquotank showed that they married on 16 April 1798. Their daughter, Susan Simson, was born 1801. She married David Tayloe/Taylor who descends from the Tayloes of Bertie County.......Kinchen was his father who died when he was just about 3 years old. His mother, who was Ann Outlaw, remarried after Kinchen Tayloe's death, to Lododwick Pruden....so for years, because of this, we were unable to find the parents of actually David and Susan. Then in March of 2011 I found a stroke of luck while at the NC Archives and found Robert Simson's Will. (I had been looking at Simpsons and not Simsons) In the will he mentions his daughter, Susan Taylor now married to David Taylor, and residing in Indiana. Well......that was them!! Because after they were married they did move to Henry County, IN. And of course, we have a huge paper trail on them up to that time. (I will add that Kinchen was the son of Abraham Tayloe and grandson of Richard Tayloe...both are listed in the DAR Index book and at this time I have supplementals waiting for their approval on both of them! So I am an active DAR member.)
The Morgans.......we have most of the grandmother's information on the Simsons and Tayloes with the exception of Robert's wife due to the fact that she is not mentioned in his Will of 1834. We had found a marriage license for a Robert Simson married to Ann Tadlock but the date was too early to be parents of Susan and her two sbylings, Robert and Elizabeth. So just last week we met a new cousin on line and she emailed me that Robert's wife was Mary Morgan, daughter of Joseph Morgan and Margaret X. Last night I found a Joseph Morgan and Margaret Proctor on someone elses message on this forum but have not checked it out yet for location and dates.
I also checked out USGenWeb and found some Morgans in Perquimans County and am leaning toward thinking, if we do actually have this Morgan family........that they are Quakers.
My question........do any of these names sound familiar? Our Simson line also connects to the Swanns of Swanns Point...Robert's grandmother being Rebecca Swann married to William Simson. Robert's parents were William Simson married to Rhoda Tadlock, daughter of Edward Tadlock.
I look forward to corresponding with anyone that might be connected to this family in ANY way and hope you can help me with our new discovery of Morgans. My email address is [email protected]
Thanks...Etta Reid
