By the time all was said and done, Lincoln County was reduced to 10 miles in width, and an average 30 miles in length.
Lincolnton, was therefore 1-1/2 miles from the Catawba County line, to the North, and 4-1/2 miles from the Gaston County line, to the South.
[Note: Gaston County created in 1846]
Which left Lincolnton, about 4 miles in width (North to South).
Also, part of Lincolnton, became known as "Boger City".
In the area of Lincolnton-Boger City, there is an "Arney Street", which runs West to East, and is bound by "Hubbard Street" on the West, and "Lawing Street" on the East.
This makes me wonder if the "Arney Plantation" was near this area, because we know that Christian "Christy" Arney, Sr. owned several lots in Lincolnton.
Jacob Arney (????-1784) would have left the plantation to his son.
Christian "Christy" Arney, Sr. (1750-1834), left the plantation to his son
Christian "Christy" Arney, Jr. (1795-1840), left the plantation to his wife
Sarah "Sally" Vandike (1802-1880)
Christian "Christy" Arney, Jr. left the plantation and lots in Lincolnton to his Widow, Sarah Arney, and his minor children.
In 1846, The Court forced the minor children to sell of several lots in Lincolnton, to pay off debts of his father's estate.
Using the US Federal Census
Sarah Arney, 48, can be found in 1850 (Lincoln County, NC)
Sarah Arney, 58, can be found in 1860 (Gaston County, NC)
Sarah Arney, I have not found in 1870
Sarah Arney, 82, can be found in 1880 (Gaston County, NC)
So, I don't know, if the "Arney Plantation" left the hands of the "Arney's" in 1846.
Ironically, Gaston County was formed in 1846.
Yet, she was still living in Lincoln County, NC, in 1850.
What do you think, and how can I find out?
