John Bird/Byrd married Nancy Lavander in Lincoln County, North Carolina on 17 May 1825. In 1846 the part of Lincoln County in which they lived became Gaston County. Children may include-- (1) daughter Missouri Bird b. 1828; (2)son John Franklin Bird/Byrd b. 1830 who moved to Pickens County, South Carolina and worked as a millwright; (3)daughter Roxanna Bird/Byrd b. 1832; (4)son Madison Bird b. 1834; (5) son Oliver Pryor Bird/Byrd b. 1837; and (6)daughter Mary E. Bird b. 1841 who married Elzie E. Black.
John Bird/Byrd apparently marred a second time to the widow Susannah Howell (previously married to William H. Scism) in Gaston County, North Carolina 19 Jul 1874. They had a daughter M. Ann Bird, b. 1876.
