I have been researching the Bellew family in England for many years. See my Genforum UK page under Bellew.

This was a family of knights who first came to England in 1066. Could the Ballew families in the US be descended from them? Spellings varied so much that how the name sounds in the local accent is often the best guide. In Devon, England for instance the name Bellew is pronounced like Blue or B'loo. Sounds pretty much like Ballew to me.

What do you think?
