This is EXTREMELY interesting -- It sounds as if this must be my Margaret McKemie/McCamey Alexander Wilson -- 1st married to Arthur Alexander and widowed in 1764, then married to James Wilson Sr. It has been assumed that Margaret's McKemie's hailed from the Waxhaw Settlement of old Mecklenburg, but this seems to indicate that her father, John, did not live here. It's possible/probable that the Waxhaw McKemie family were relatives, but not her parents. I recently got hold of transcripts of gravestones at the old Waxhaw Church, and the ages do not fit, so I'd begun to have doubts. There were many families from Cumberland Co. PA that moved down into the Mecklenburg area, and even the names of witnesses McConnell and Culbertson (Cuthbertson later) are names that we find in our early years. This is GREAT INFO and a real eye-opener -- Thanks! I am researching the Alexander line from Margaret and Arthur Alexander, and believe it to be mine, so you may have given me another link here. Unlike Alexander, the name McKemie/McCamey was not prevalent, in fact, was rare here -- This is almost certain to be my Margaret Mc. Alexander. I just responded earlier tonight to a query you had on Sheriff (James)Wilson -- who is a son of Margaret; Now I would be interested to know your link to these families. Who are you researching, and would you care to share info ?
