Samuel Turner, Rev. War Soldier

Is anyone researching the family of Samuel Turner, pensioned Revolutionary War Soldier who served in SC (probably in the area of Spartanburg Co.) and the moved to Burke County in the part that became McDowell Co. He was born about 1762 and in 1832/1834 he was living about 16-20 miles from Morganton, Burke Co., NC.

The 1830 Census of Burke Co., NC has two Samuel Turners: one on page 184 who is between the ages of 70-80 years old (b. 1751-1760) and one on page 191 who is between the ages of 50-60. On page 190 is a David Turner.

He appears to have been married twice: first wife not known; second wife Fanny Lackey whom he married in 1825 or 1828. He clearly had children by both wives based on the pension application.

Solomon Forest living in Spartanburg Co., SC gave a deposition on his behalf before Henry Turner J.Q. in Spartanburg Co., SC. There is no date of death for him in the file but the pension was paid to 4 September 1846.

Fanny died on January 31, 1865 in McDowell Co.,NC.

Would love to find anyone resesearching this family. There must have been some intermarriage with the Portis/Portus family, Lackey family, and England family.

What can be ascertained from his pension file was that there was an oldest child (female but not named) who was born about 1782 and the children living in 1866 were Wilson Turner, Susan Turner, Richard Turner, Mary/Polly Turner, James Turner, William Turner, Jane Turner, and Priscilla Portus.

1850 Census of McDowell County has the following households (among others):

p. 313B
Fanny Turner-----64 F-------SC
Wilson-----------32 M------SC
Polly------------23 F------SC
Samuel------------1 M------NC
Susan McEntire---20 F------NC
Sarah J.--"----8/12 F------NC
Sally Turner-----11 F------NC

Sukey Turner-----32 F-------SC
Noah-------------12 M------NC
Margaret----------9 F------NC

p. 391
Uriah Portice------37 M----VA
Priscilla Portice--30 F----SC

Hope someone out there is working on this family. I do not believe there is anyone who has gone into DAR on this family which is just amazing since he was a pensioned Rev. War Soldier.

My interest is in trying to prove his parents.
