Don't know if these persons are part of your Keel family, but they are descendants of slaves of the Keel family of North Carolina.

Please let me know if they fit into your family.

Ancestors of Henry B. Grimes Keel

Generation 1

1.        Henry B. Grimes Keel was born in Jan 1857 in Beaufort County, NC. He died on 17 Mar 1928 in Williamston, Martin County, NC. He was the son of 2. Nelson Keel and 3. Rebecca Chancey. He married Martha Moore on 14 Dec 1881 in Pitt County, NC, daughter of Church Moore and Mary Short. She was born in Sep 1868 in Pitt County, NC. She died about 1906 in Pitt County, NC. He married Annie Langley in 1903 in Pactolus, Pitt County, NC. She was born in Pitt County, NC. He married Emily. She was born on 07 Apr 1871 in Williamston, Martin County, NC. She died on 02 Sep 1951 in Williamston, Martin County, NC.

       Notes for Henry B. Grimes Keel:

       Information on the Henry Keel and Martha (Moore) Keel family was taken from the June 15, 1900 Pactolus Township, Pitt County Census. The family was residing at Dwelling #154 , Family # 163, Supv District No. 2, Enumeration District No. 95.

       Source #2: Death Certificate of Henry Keel was obtained from www.familysearc.org on April 19, 2010. Henry's death certificate lists the cause of death as Bright's Disease at age 71 years and his date of birth was listed as 1857 (no day or month). He died on March 17, 1928 in Williamston, Martin County, NC. Listed as father on his birth certificate is Nelsen Keel with mother listed as "unknown". Emily Keel was listed as his spouse on his death certificate. His occupation is listed as "farmer". The informant was his spouse, Emily Keel. Henry was buried on March 18, 1928 at Whiteheads Place in Pitt County, NC. The undertaker was J.D.____ (illegible) of 430 Church Street.

Generation 2

2.        Nelson Keel was born in 1820. He married Rebecca Chancey.

3.        Rebecca Chancey was born Mar 1835 in Beufort, Bertie County, NC. She died 31 Oct 1916 in Pactolus Twp., Pitt County, NC. She was the daughter of 6. Sahda Chancery and 7. Hettie.

       Notes for Rebecca Chancey:

       Rebecca (Becky is listed on the death certificate) Keel died of old age at age 80 years. There was no attending physician. No recoard of day or month of birth was listed, but the year was listed as 1835. Her occupation was listed as housekeeper. The parents listed on her death certificate were Sahda Chancey and Hettie Chancey. She was buried at Whitehead Place. There was no undertaker. The informant was W. R. Short of Pactolus, NC. The death certificate is on filed at the North Carolina State Board of Health, Bureau of Vital Statistics, Registration district No 74-5973, file No. 2, Registered No. 24, Page 448.
