My great grandfather's name was Jefferson Davis Griggs. There is a person with the same name, born the same year, in the
Griggs-Ledford family of Macon County NC. I have been researching this possible connection for over a year. No one from that family seems to know what happened to "their" Jefferson, who was the youngest of six children born to William and Mary (Ledford-Griggs). It was noted that this Jefferson evidently was married in 1882 to a "Teathia" and that is all that is written.
My Jefferson was married to Lottie (Whitaker) in Westpoint Georgia in 1885 and they had four children, one being my grandmother Bennetta.
I strongly believe that there could not be 2 people with such an uncommon name in the same vicinity at the same time. North Carolina does border Georgia.
My cousin just told me that she spoke with her 90 year old mother about this and she remembers her grandfather William Griggs was a physician. (another coincidence)?
Can anyone help with this? Where was your Jefferson after 1882? Did they have children? Do you know where he passed
away? My Jefferson Davis Griggs passed away in Detroit MI in 1936.
Also, is it a coincidence that Jefferson MARTIN Griggs married a woman with a similar name Teletha)or did someone connect the woman's name with both Jefferson Davis and Jefferson Martin?
I appreciate any help. Thanks, Pat
