HOW CAN JOHN BE YOUR FIRST COUSIN IF HE DIED JUST AFTER THE CIVIL WAR?
I AM WORKING ON THE LETTERS. THEY REALLY ARE WONDERFUL
JOHN WAS AN ELOQUENT WRITER AS WAS HIS WIFE LIZZIE MOORE
AND HER SISTER ADDIE WHO I THINK MARRIED A GASTON.
HERE IS AN EXCERPT FROM A LETTER...

Camp Ebenezer Aug 14 63
My darling Lizzie,
Your very letter of the 3 t--- came to hand last-----
News of JJ Moores safe arrival home and Joabs miraculous escape from Yankee ----the recovery of sick friends –is all good news. It seams like Joab, never will get to come home, poor boy he has had his trials in this eventful war. Oh! That it would end and let absent friends return to loved ones at home. We are all weary and tired of camp. We desire peace, once more and “Good Will To Men”. The desire to spend the remainder of our days in peace with those we love, there is no happiness outside of this , no pleasure, no enjoyment, while ---deprived of peace , and the enjoyments of home. How glad our hearts would be if peace could be made on honorable terms. But we are not done suffering yet, nor will we be, until our independence is achieved, which I fear will be a long time yet. The enemy seems to be closing in upon us and ----human ? appearance we are on the eve of being over run. Our prospects are gloomy, since the fall of Vicksburg, the capture of Morgan, and Lees failure in Pa ?? a feeling of despair seems to have--- taken hold on the people and ---- are almost ---- to give up –the
Struggle. They say we will be whipt and we might as well quit now. I do not think we are whipt but I do think the chances are against us. I hope matters will change and ? will yet crown our armies. Bragg is the main pos? under E Tenn and if he gives way “Down goes the Shanty” It is generally believed that E Tenn will fall into the hands of the enemy before the leaves fall. I hope however this will not be the case, for the lap of E Tenn would throw ? the war into Georgia, Alabama & North Carolina, and our own people would feel the horrors of war, more severable?? Than they now do, but what is to become of us all I can’t tell, we cannot see the end. In regard to the 7th Bat NC troops, I can say but little. It is a small command at best....
ISN'T THIS A GREAT READ? THE JOAB MENTIONED IS JOAB MOORE ADDIE AND LIZZIES BROTHER...AT LEAST I THINK SO...
